Do you need some TLC? Therapeutic Lifestyle Change is a positive approach toward helping you be the best you you can be with regard to health and well-being. Achieving and maintaining ideal weight is an important aspect of that. The program at Preventive Medicine Group is designed to help a person lose weight with the support of J. Helen Kwon, M.D. The program involves therapeutic lifestyle changes, detoxification, balanced diet, nutritional supplementation and frequency specific microcurrent.

What is the first step? The first step is to come in for an initial consultation with Dr. Kwon. At that time, she will do a health history and make recommendations for some laboratory tests. If you are already a patient of PMG, much of this will already have been done. If you are new to the practice, the lab may involve testing of a conventional, nutritional, hormonal and immune nature using blood, hair and/or urine. Dr. Kwon will also measure your Body Mass Index (BMI), percentage of muscle and fat, and calculate your “body age.” Our body age can be much older or much younger than our chronological age. Excess weight can make our body be much older than our years and is a health risk. However, unlike the years we have lived, our body age can be reversed! Isn’t that good news?

What is the detox? The Ideal Weight Program includes both a cleansing of the organs of elimination and detoxification of stored toxins in a four-week initial stage that involves a specific order of the organs. Many toxins are stored in tissues and adipose (fat) as a safety mechanism by the body when it is not able to process them. These toxins are mobilized when adipose tissue is metabolized during weight loss. A gentle, progressive cleansing of the organs of elimination prior to weight loss readies the body to handle fat metabolism and the release and detoxification of stored toxins. Often “hitting a plateau” in weight loss is the body signaling it cannot effectively metabolize any more fat/toxins. In its infinite wisdom to protect itself, the body blocks fat loss. The body must be able to excrete the toxins and fat that becomes metabolized. Therefore the organs of elimination should be readied first.

What kind of diet is it? In general, Preventive Medicine Group recommends a diet of pure, fresh, natural foods cutting out processed, prepared, packaged food, junk foods, additives, preservatives, sugars, etc. Based on this foundation, Dr. Kwon will be implementing dietary management within a calorie range calculated to be specific to your individual needs. There will also be maintenance of an acid/alkaline diet so that what you eat keeps your body within a certain pH range. Basically, you will be learning to eat a healthy selection and portion of foods that you can maintain lifelong. Your choices will not only be conducive to promoting weight loss but also be foundational to promoting health and preventing disease. Dr. Kwon will maintain your program of nutritional supplements including some that are specialized to this program that she will individualize and explain to you.

What is the frequency specific microcurrent element of the program? Each of our organs has an energy. One of the unique aspects of this program is stimulation of this energy to promote the organ metabolism in a most efficient way. The stimulation may involve specific microcurrent frequencies that are resonating with metabolically optimal frequency of each organ or auricular acupuncture which is stimulation of acupuncture points within the ear with acupuncture needles.

12 Weekly Visits The program is designed for you to come in on a weekly basis for 12 weeks. Each visit you will see Dr. Kwon for a short visit, have a Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) treatment, and from weeks 5 to 12, a visit with our Patient Education Program counselor. The cost for these weekly visits is an inclusive charge of $100.

These Weekly Visits are divided into 3 Stages

Stage I -- The detoxification stage. During the four steps of this stage the emphasis is on the FSM, detoxification herbs and urine testing for pH levels.
Stage II -- Dietary management begins with calorie management and acid/ alkaline dietary management. The FSM treatments continue.
Stage III -- Continuation of the first two stages with additional focus on exercise and muscle strength and reinforcement of what you are doing. Measurements become important in this stage.
